Fouts Field was home to the North Texas football team for 59 years before opening the brand-new Apogee Staidum, now what remains of Fouts is roughly 30 yards of turf, one field goal post and pile of scraps from the work already done.

In 2011, the University of North Texas officially opened its new Apogee stadium for the school's Division-I Mean Green football team plays, although the program didn’t always have the luxury of sitting 30,850 fans for one game.

Just across Interstate- 35 from the new stadium lies the remains of Fouts Field, UNT’s old football stadium, Fouts is currently being demolished in order to create a brand-new bus transfer station and 1,100 extensive parking spots, officials told the North Texas Daily.

With the demolition almost finished, students want to know how this will affect life around campus is the question at hand. Business major Tristan Romanjowski believes the changes won't alter his everyday life.

“It’s helpful they’re adding more parking spaces,” Romajowski said. “But, they’re still going to charge an insane amount of money for a parking pass, so it really makes no difference for me.”

The demolition of Fouts was announced in 2018 and has nearly been completed. The site of the demolition is just across I-35 from Apogee stadium and directly behind the North Texas ROTC building and has affcted some daily life, UNT ROTC recruiting officer, Phil Kuruvilla said.

“It was nice having [Fouts Field] because we did our personal training there, but the school has been very accommodating letting us use Apogee stadium,” Kuruvilla said. “We also used to keep storage out there under the bleachers, so we had to move that.”

UNT Junior Isaac Bender said he is excited about the new bus station on the way in addition to his relief that he no longer at Victory Hall located on the Apogee side of I-35.

“I’m just thankful I don’t have to wake up to that noise like the current Victory hall people probably do,” Isaac Bender said. “I really think that new bus station will be cool though, it’s a mess how it’s set up now.”

A look at the last 30 yards that remain of Fouts Field.

Currently the bus station sits in front of the ROTC and track and field buildings that lie directly in front of Fouts along North Texas Dr. With the current demolition almost completed, UNT residents will soon be able to see how the changes to the bus station affect their daily lives.
